Osprey PIAT Weapon

In 1942, Britain introduced the innovative Projector, Infantry, Anti-Tank (PIAT), offering British and Commonwealth troops a much-needed tool to combat Germany's powerful Panzers. Replacing the ineffective Boys anti-tank rifle, the PIAT was developed in the secretive World War II research and development unit known as 'Churchill's Toyshop', alongside other ingenious weapons. Due to its limited range, troops needed exceptional courage to get close enough to enemy tanks for a direct hit, often approaching within 50 feet. Six Victoria Crosses were awarded to soldiers operating PIATs during World War II. A front-line weapon in every theater of conflict involving Commonwealth troops, from Europe to the Far East, the PIAT remained in service post-1945, seeing action in the Greek Civil War, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and the Korean War.
