This is definitely an older piece. The pin extends the catch by quite a bit, this is pre-eagle (pre 1940's) and is marked TAXCO 980 (This means the brooch is 980 parts silver vs. 925 parts which is common for "Sterling Silver". The piece weighs 5.8 grams.
