This Hummel is 5.5” tall and it bears a TMK2 (Full Bee) which means it was produced Circa 1945 to 1959. It has no scratches, mars, or repairs., but minor crazing on the bottom which is not unusual for it’s age. It is in Excellent, MINT condition. This was designed by master sculptor Reinhold Unger based on one of Sister Maria’s drawings. It was one of the original 48 released in 1935 for the Leipzig Fair and was originally called “Urchin”.
Sister Maria had a love of children, and a whimsical nature, sketching them in various situations. This young man is battling the harsh winter winds of Bavaria but has on only lederhosen, a cap and a blowing scarf! With his hands in his pockets, he braves the day!
A great testament to the master craftsmen at the Goebel factory and has stood the ravages of time.
